Nuclear Engineering is a diverse field that encompasses and goes far beyond nuclear power generation. Nuclear engineering is concerned with the science of atomic processes and their application to real world problems. Along with fission energy for electricity production, applications of the expertise gained from a nuclear education include nuclear medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of disease, computational and modeling skills that can be applied across scientific disciplines, detection and diagnostic skills for enhancing national security, and problem solving skills that can be applied across disciplines and careers. Nuclear engineering graduates will apply their knowledge to important grand challenge problems and will contribute to industry, government, national laboratories, and academia.
